About Us

What is life? How do atoms and molecules come together to build cells, tissues, organisms and communities?

We are a community of researchers working at the interface between the life, physical, mathematical and engineering sciences to answer these questions. We invent novel techniques to capture living systems in action, develop causal predictive mathematical models to explain the behavior of living matter, and engineer new bio-inspired systems to test our predictions. Collectively, we are revealing the laws, rules, codes and strategies that govern life. By advancing our fundamental understanding of living things, our work has bearing on all aspects of biology and medicine, from drug development to bioengineering and personalized medicine to epidemiology and public health.

We are dedicated to recruiting and training both current and future thought leaders. We are also dedicated to expanding the QBio community beyond Harvard. Our workshops, visitors programs, undergraduate research programs, and symposia are all designed to make sure current and future faculty and scholars are equipped to solve the most important questions in biology.
